Cube, Pyramid and Sphere
Cube, Pyramid and Sphere is an installation piece that weaves through time and space. Created in late 2017 for Industry City, Brooklyn, this work has been many years in the making.
It began with the discovery of a green block of wood, floating in the ocean at Reese Park, one winter, many years ago. The removal of the wooden block became a “performance” in collaboration with a visiting German art historian and a Swiss painter.
Gradually the piece took shape. The column, cube, pyramid and sphere are made of clay, pigmented with oxides and fired to cone 10 in double gas reduction. They were created over several years, with the intention of existing as a unit. Other media include: wood found in the ocean, river gravel, river stones from a friend’s memorial, limestone and slate smashed to bits.
